Michelle Waterson should defend title against Simona Soukupova

After former Invicta FC Atomweight champion Jessica Penne (11-2) scored a first-round submission victory in her fight against “The Night Queen” Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc (8-7), she said she wanted a rematch with current champion “The Karate Hottie” Michelle Waterson (11-3), who defeated Penne to win the belt, earlier this year.

Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp said that while Penne was deserving of a rematch, she wanted to give Waterson a chance to defend the title against another contender before the former champion gets a rematch, which is not uncommon in mixed martial arts.

While it seems that Penne will have to wait, the question remains: who should face The Karate Hottie for the 105-pound championship?

One fighter who is worthy of being the opponent’s for Waterson’s first title defense is British prospect Simona Soukupova (4-2-1), who is coming off a big submission win over Cassie Rodish (4-4) at Invicta FC 5, which was the same event where Waterson won the title from Penne, via submission in the fourth round. Despite having two losses on her record, one of which was to Felice Herrig (9-4), Soukupova has never been finished in her career.

With all of her wins being finishes, the British fighter could put up an exciting match against Waterson, who has been impressive both times she has stepped inside the Invicta cage.

Whoever wins this fight would most likely defend the title against Penne.
