Muhammed Lawal Earns Bellator Title Shot

Moments before the MMA world was rocked by the announcement of Quinton Jackson (32-11) and Tito Ortiz (16-11-1) headlining Bellator’s first pay per view, another kind of rocking had taken place.

Former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion Muhammed Lawal (11-2 1NC) defeated Jacob Noe (12-3 1NC) in the finals of Bellator’s 2013 Summer Series Light Heavyweight tournament. Lawal, also known as “King Mo” will face the winner of the Attila Vegh(29-4-2) vs. Emanuel Newton (27-7-1) light heavyweight title fight, which will take place at a later date.

I had the chance to interview Lawal before his fight with Noe and he said it did not matter whether or not he faced Newton or Vegh for the belt.  He was just going to in there and “knock them out.”

While he may have to wait to fight for the Bellator 205-pound title, Mo could spend his time chasing a championship in either Impact Wrestling or Ohio Valley Wrestling. Although professional wrestling may not be regarded as “tough” as mixed martial arts, participating in the squared circle would certainly keep him well-conditioned before the title fight.

If Bellator’s first foray into pay per view is successful, perhaps Lawal and the winner of the Vegh vs. Lawson fight could main event a pay per view in the near future.
