For several weeks MMA fans have been speculating on the identity of the fighters- specifically the female fighters – competing on the upcoming season of TUF. Now they will not have wait any longer as the list of male and female contestants has been revealed to the world.
TUF: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate will premier on Sept. 4 on Fox Sports 1 and will air every Wednesday. Not only will this be the first season where female fighters are coaching teams – UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight champion on the other – but also be the first season to feature female contestants.
MMA fans who watched the trailer will recognize the names of some of the female contestants. While some of the fighters are upcoming prospects including Jessamyn Duke, Sara Moras and Julianna Pena, there are several women’s fighters who have been competing for years, including Shayna Baszler, Tonya Evinger and Tara LaRosa.
Besides the female contestants there are several male prospects from around the world, including Michael Wooten, from England; Sirwain Kakai, from Sweson; and Patrick Holohan, from Ireland. The male fighters from the United States also have inspiring stories including Daniel Martinez, a fighter from San Diego, Calif, is an instructor to kids and a promoter of anti-bullying campaigns; Lee Sandmeier, who despite being legally deaf, has tried out for TUF; and Cody Bollinger, whose first professional fight was at 15 years old.
With this cast of fighters, along with the intense rivalry between Rousey and Tate, this season of TUF has the potential to one of the best seasons of the show in a long time.
