When Tara LaRosa last stepped into the cage, she had lost to Vanessa Porto at Invicta FC 3.
She had missed weight, the second time in her career, and looked exhausted during the fight. Despite all of this, the loss to Porto would only be her third defeat in 24 fights in a career that has spanned 11 years.
Last week the cast for the upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter” was revealed and I saw LaRosa’s name on the list. I had remembered she had gone to the try outs, but had heard nothing else. Now that it is confirmed that she will be on the show, this will the chance for her to kickstart her career to another level.
As I stated before, I’m excited to see prospects like Jessamyn Duke an Sara Moras on the show, I also want to root for the veterans, specifically LaRosa, to win it all. Combat sports is regarded as “a young person’s” game and while I am in no way shape or form calling LaRosa old, veterans often get looked over by the young, hungry up-and-comers.
Still, LaRosa has a lot of tools and credentials that will help establish her as one of the top fighters – male or female – on the show. She has excellent grappling credentials. She also recently moved to Jackson’s MMA, which will help her. She is also a multiple-time champion and has earned victories over several well-known fighters, including UFC stars Julie Kedzie and Alexis Davis.
I’m sure I will say this about the other contestants, but even if LaRosa does not win the tournament, she will still be seen by the UFC and new fans around the world, which could result in her getting a contract and fighting at a future UFC event.
