Whenever an experienced fighter from comes into the UFC for the first time, there is always the debate of whether or not they can take the step up in competition.
In the case of Jessica “Evil” Eye, it is no different. For the Evil one, who has spent her career fighting in NAAFS and Bellator, it was a dream come true for her and her fans when it was announced that she signed with the organization. However the time will come when her skills will be put to the test.
Eye is not alone in this as her UFC 166 opponent Sarah Kaufman, who along with Eye, will her UFC debut on Oct. 16.
Kaufman has been considered one of the top female fighters in the last five years. She is considered one of the best strikers in women’s MMA and as we have seen in her recent fights with Alexis Davis and Leslie Smith, she has an incredible chin. With Eye being one of the better well-rounded fighters in the women’s division, this could turn into an exciting battle, especially if they kept it standing.
In addition to both fighters’ skill sets, there are other factors that could influence the match. One factor is the whole “octagon shock” where fighters making their UFC debut feel overwhelmed by the pressure of competing on a big stage. This may not affect Eye or Kaufman that much, since both fighters have competed in national organizations.
The former Strikeforce champion is currently ranked No. 2 on the UFC’s Women’s Bantamweight rankings. If Eye can score a victory over Kaufman, not only would be pull off the biggest win of her career, but also she find herself on a quick journey to UFC title shot. However, the same could be said for Kaufman if she manages to pull off an impressive victory over the Evil one.
