Another UFC veteran will be making his way to the Bellator cage.
Bellator MMA announced the signing of French fighter and free agent Cheick Kongo, proudly boasting that he would be “bolstering” their heavyweight division. If there is any weight class in Bellator that needs some bolstering, it is the heavyweight division.
Kongo had a good run in the UFC that included wins over Pat Barry, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Matt Mitrione. His last fight was against Roy Nelson, who defeated Kongo via first-round knockout.
In addition to his star power, the French fighter also has powerful hands that are capable of bring any fighter to the canvas.
Kongo will be joining his WolfslairMMA teammate Quinton Jackson, who will fight Tito Ortiz in the main event of Bellator’s Nov. 6 pay per view. Bellator said in a press release that Kongo is scheduled to make his debut in the Season 9 Heavyweight Tournament in October. Although there is not currently a heavyweight tournament scheduled for the ninth season of Bellator, I’m sure the promotion can bring in seven more fighters to fill the bracket before the end of September.
Kongo has already been welcomed by Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney. No doubt he will receive a warm welcome by Bellator fans.
