Dong Hyun Kim lived up this nickname.
The Korean fighter, whose nickname is “Stun Gun,” scored a second-round knock out over prospect Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night: Maia vs. Shields, in Silva’s home country of Brazil.
Silva had come into the fight as a 2-to-1 favorite over Kim, who had not finished an opponent since 2008. Unfortunately for Silva, Kim landed a shot that sent him to the canvas. Not only did the Stun Gun earn his first Fight Night bonus, but also he became the first fighter to finish the Brazilian fighter.
With this latest victory, Kim extends his winning streak to three. He has also earned a fight with a top tier fighter. He has victories over Matt Brown and Nate Diaz. He has only two losses on his record from Interim champion Carlos Condit and Demian Maia, which that loss was attributed to a muscle spasm.
I’d like to see Kim get a rematch against Maia. I would also like to watch him fight Jake Shields, who defeated Maia by split-decision on the same evening.
One thing is for certain. This victory for Kim was the thing he needed to get his career back on track.
