MMA fighters and their Pokemon counterparts

This was a post I did a while ago where I compare MMA fighters to Pokemon. This isn’t the first UFC/Pokemon comparison, rather this is my take on it. Also my knowledge of Pokemon doesn’t go beyond the first two generation of games and much of the anime series.

1. Fedor Emelinanenko – Articuno
Whether you love him or hate him, there is no denying that Fedor had a legendary career, so it is fitting that he be compared to one of the earlier legendary Pokemon. Like Fedor, Articuno has a mystique about it that is backed up with its amazing power.

Fedor and Articuno are also products of their time. As MMA and Pokemon have grown over the years, these legendary forces still the respect of many of their peers and fans, even though they have experienced a few shortcomings along the way.

2. Antonio Rodrgio Nogueira – Pikachu
This specifically deals with Ash’s Pikachu. Both he and Minotauro Nogueira are very durable and have taken the meanest of hits from the most powerful opponents.

Like Big Nog, Pikachu, with his trainer’s guidance, will find a way to win a battle, whether his own special abilities or his striking attacks.

3. Team Cesar Gracie – Dugtrio
Like the individual members of Cesar Gracie’s camp (Nick & Nate Diaz, Jake Shields and Gilbert Melendez), Diglett is a formidable foe for most Pokemon, but when they combine to form a single unit, they become unbreakable and almost unstoppable.

4. Roy Nelson – Psyduck
Psyduck and Big Country are similar besides the big belly and their comedic nature.

Nelson is known for having an iron chin that can take shots from the best heavyweights while Psyduck, specifically Misty’s, can take several shots to the head before unleashing its psychic powers that resulted from the headache.

5. Mirko “Cro Cop” – Hitmonlee
Pride champion and K-1 veteran Mirko Cro Cop is known for having some of the most lethal kicks in combat sports while Hitmonlee is a Pokemon who is perhaps the best kicker out of all of the fighter types.

6. Ronda Rousey- Charizard
Both UFC champion Ronda Rousey and Ash’s Charizard are known for spitting fire and taking any challenge that is thrown to them.

Also Charizar’ds seismic toss can be compared to Rousey’s grappling skills as it has taken down some of the most powerful Pokemon including: Blastoise, Articuno and Magmar.

7. Genki Sudo – Dragonite
Although both Sudo and Dragonite are known for being warriors, they also have a calm and innocent demeanor where they value all aspects of life.

8. Chael Sonnen – Meowth
This is one of the comparisons that i agree with. Although they may not have the strongest of abilities, Sonnen and Meowth are known for their gift of the gab.

They are also known for being apart of famous teams: Sonnen being a member of Team Quest while Meowth is one of the more well-known members of Team Rocket.

9. Junior Dos Santos – Hitmonchan
UFC Heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos has one of the best boxing skills of any fighter who has competed inside of the octagon while Hitmonchan has perhaps the best hands of any fighter type.

10. Wanderlei Silva – Charmander
Both Wanderlei and Charmander have that fire that seems to intensify and rage during a battle. Outside of a fight they are gentle and loving.

While Wanderlei is my favorite fighter, Charmander is my favorite Pokemon.
