Alman on Felice-Cassie-Cage Gate

Gamers have spent the last several months waiting for Mortal Kombat X to come out. One of the new generation of fighters who will be making their Mortal Kombat debut is Cassie Cage, the daughter of MK veterans Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage. When she was first introduced, Netherrealm Studios creative director Ed Boon said that a lot of Cage’s moves were based on her parents. While she seemingly has her mother’s good looks, Cage has a striking resemblance to someone else.

UFC fighter Felice Herrig threw up a few posts saying that Netherrealm Studios based Cassie off of her – aesthetically speaking. Herrig hasn’t said anything about taking any sort of legal action against Netherrealm Studios and she doesn’t seem to be that upset. However some fans suggest she should call her lawyers. I see where these geniuses are coming from. Because there aren’t that many blondes out there who tie up their hair like Cassie does.

Kidding aside, this is probably a case of a developer unknowingly modeling the character after Felice – or he/she probably just said “I need someone who has the look of a MMA fighter,” did a Google search and found Herrig’s picture. Or maybe they purposely base Cassie look off Herrig. It’s no secret that Mortal Kombat started as a game based around Jean Claude Van Damme and Johnny Cage’s look in the first game was based off Van Damme.

One positive from all of this is if Machinima does a season of “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” and needs someone for Cassie Cage, they have someone ready to go … well someone for the audition process.

Some cats are saying “this is not news” so I placed a 14-minute gameplay video of Mortal Kombat X featuring Cassie Cage and Kotal Khan.
