One of Invicta Fighting Championships’ newest champions is going to be a staple for the promotion.
In a news release, Invicta FC announced that strawweight champion Katja “The Killer Bunny” Kankaanpää signed a long term contract with the promotion.
Kankaanpää is 2-1 with the promotion and 10-1-1 overall. In her last fight, she came back from behind to submit Stephanie Eggink with a D’Arce choke in the fifth round. Her only loss was against Scottish Striking Sensation Joanne Calderwood.
In an interview, The Killer Bunny said she is happy with her contract deal and that being in Invicta gives her a chance to face the best 115-pound women fighters in the world.
“I’m very motivated and I have been training hard towards defending my title many times. There are many girls in our division who want the belt and that makes me work even harder,” Kankaanpää said.
This is great for Invicta FC. Although the UFC’s strawweight division is tempting for women who fight at or near the 115-pound range, Kankaanpää gets a chance to not only be the face of her division but also the promotion.
