Invicta Fighting Championships’ atomweight division is going to have some royalty in its ranks.
In a news release, Invicta announced that undefeated Brazilian prospect Janaisa “Evil Princess” Morandin signed a contract with the promotion.
In an interview with Invicta, Morandin said the all-women’s promotion is where she wanted to be. She also wants to be the fans’ “favorite fighter.”
“I am willing to bring great performances to the Invicta cage. You all can expect to see sweat, blood, tears and a big smile on my face as it all comes out!”
Morandin, a native of Rio Grande du Sol, started her MMA career in 2013. She defeated Tianse Souza in her one and only amateur bout. She stepped into the professional rankings in June of that year and has won all seven of her fights. She closed out 2013 with back-to-back wins over Thayani Christine and fought five times in 2014. Her last three fights – one of which she won via TKO in 16 seconds – were in a stretch of three months. She hasn’t fought since October where she picked up a decision win over Arielle Souza.
In addition to her MMA career, Morandin has some Muay Thai experience. She trains with Astra Fight Team alongside Rafael Silva, Bellator veteran; Taila Santos, who recently signed with Bellator and Erick Carlos Silva, who will join the cast of “The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 4.”
The Evil Princess will fit in well with the rest of the international talent that has made its way to Invicta, including fellow Brazilian Herica Tuburcio, who made a big splash in her debut for the promotion, submitting Michelle Waterson with a guillotine choke to win the Invicta atomweight title back in December and snapping “The Karate Hottie’s” six-fight winning streak.
Invicta doesn’t have a date set for Morandin’s debut. After her hectic 2014, I’m sure she’s enjoyed her rest but is also ready to get into the cage and begin her conquest of Invicta’s 105-pound weight class.
