To view some of Begley’s handiwork, watch her bout with Rickard.
Much like Bruce Wayne when he first put on the cape and cowl and went into the streets of Gotham to begin his campaign against crime, Gina “Jellybean” Begley will put her skills to the test when she makes her professional mixed martial arts debut, April 24, at Invicta FC 12.
Invicta Fighting Championships announced that Begley (0-0 MMA, 0-0 Invicta) will step in for injured flyweight Roma Pawelek to take on Sijara Eubanks (0-0) in a bantamweight contest.
For fans who follow the Blue Grass MMA scene, Begley is one of Kentucky’s well-known amateur fighters who trains with AFS Academy. She is a longtime face in the MMA scene, racking up an impressive amateur record with four victories coming by submission. Her last bout was in September where she defeated Ashley Rickard via split-decision. In addition to being a fighter, Begley is also a writer, radio host, fitness instructor and a supermom.
Begley, who holds a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, is an experienced grappler with a solid submission game, yet she will have a tough test against Eubanks. Although she has limited experience in MMA, Eubanks is a multiple-time IBJJF champion and ready to make her mark in the cage. This should be quite a scrap on the ground. The Jellybean is also an amateur Muay Thai champion and could have the advantage if the fight stays on the feet.
