Zack Mwekassa and Saulo Cavalari rematch for Glory light heavyweight belt

While the MMA side of Bellator/Glory Dynamite, at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., on Sept. 19, is set, the kickboxing side of the card is light. We know that Joe Schilling and Paul Daley will fight in Glory bouts, but there hasn’t been an established main event for the kickboxing portion of the card, until now.

Glory World Series announced that Congo’s Zack Mwekassa will face No. 1 contender and Brazilian fighter Saulo Cavalari for the vacant light heavyweight title. Gokhan Saki defeated Tyrone Sprong to win the light heavyweight title in April 2014. He held on to the belt for 471 days before Glory stripped him of it due to inactivity.

Mwekassa and Cavalari faced off in the finals of the Glory Light Heavyweight Contenders tournament. Cavalari landed a vicious head kick that knocked out the Congo fighter. In June, Mwekassa rebounded from the loss after he defeated Carlos Brooks after delivering a vicious left hook that sent Brooks to the canvas.

Cavalari has been active, earning a split-decision win over Artem Vakhitov.

This is a good addition to Dynamite. Although Bellator is getting most of the press and publicity, Glory has a chance to showcase its product and talent to new audiences. Mwekassa vs. Cavalari II may create some new kickboxing fans.
