After taking the top spot in the CGA’s Eastern Division, the Detroit Direwolves prevailed one of the league’s overall top teams, the Los Angeles Seriphim, 155.97-105.92.
Quarterback Cam Newton had the performance of the season, earning 44.38 fantasy points (24.06 projection) after going 15 for 30 passes with 297 yards and three touchdowns. Running back DeAngelo Williams earned 40.47 points (16.22), with his 27 carries for 170 yards and two touchdowns.
The following Direwolves offensive players scored above projections: wide receivers Jordan Matthews (16.67 compared to 6.67), Tavon Austin (12.70-11.25) and Allen Robinson (9.27-7.15), and running back Todd Gurley (21.63-17.39).
The Direwolves’ defense earned 7.85 points (8.90), while kicker Mason Crosby had 3 points (8.26) with three successful PATs.
Detroit (3-1 division, 5-3 overall) find themselves with a tough challenge when they face the Western Division’s Vancouver Totems (0-4, 3-5), who are coming off a win over Empire St.
Newton, who’s on a bit of a hot streak, will have his third start at quarterback. Williams suffered an inflammation of his foot, and status for this week is up in the air. He sat out of today’s (Nov. 12) practice but reports suggest he’ll play.
