The Detroit Direwolves have a lot to be thankful for after last week’s win over the Calgary Coeurls, 129.49-66.02, which earned them a berth in the CGA playoffs.
Quarterback Cam Newton was the big scorer this week, earning 44.44 points (projected 24.95) with 21 compete passes for 246 yards and five touchdowns. Kicker Mason Crosby scored 22 points (8.16) with five field goals, including one for 52 yards, and one successful PAT.
Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins also ended up in the double digits with 20.87 points (10.11) with five receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns, as did running back Todd Gurley, who had 15.60 points (18.68) with 25 carries for 66 yards and a TD.
Detroit (7-3 overall, 4-1 Eastern Division) will have another tough test ahead of them when they take on the Toronto Tops (4-6, 2-3).
The Direwolves defeated the Tops to pick up their first win of the season. Carson Palmer will return to quarterback duties.
