Fans of Invicta featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino won’t have to wait much longer to see her fight in the octagon. UFC announced that Justino would meet Leslie Smith at UFC 198, in May in her home country of Brazil. It will be a 140-pound catchweight bout.
According to UFC president Dana White, Smith “begged” for the fight.
Smith is a good opponent for Justino. She’s experienced, a great grappling game and good striking. She’s also one of the toughest fighters in the women’s division and there’s a chance this fight may go past the first round – something that hasn’t happened to Cyborg since she defeated Marloes Coenen to win the title.
I had one guy already say to me that “Cyborg is going to EAT” (I didn’t see the rest of the message) but I assume he means Smith – or her ear.
I’ve been vocal in the past about how Justino should focus on being Invicta’s champion if she’s not going to make the drop to 135, but I’m glad to see she’s getting a shot to compete in the octagon – in front of her home country. As for Smith, this is the biggest fight in her career. It should be a good one.
